German luxury carmaker’s fast-growing line of EVs, Mercedes-Benz, has taken the wraps off its latest electric sports utility car. The Mercedes Benz EQS SUV, the brand’s newest luxurious flagship electric SUV model, will officially unveiled and is now the top electric vehicle in the company’s entire portfolio.

Like other Mercedes-Benz EQS and Mercedes-Benz EQE sedans, the American-built EQS is built upon the federally-licensed electric vehicle (EVA) platform that can be used with a single motor, rear-wheel drive, or quad-motor with four-wheel-drive layouts.

The entry point into the range can be found in an EQS 450.

It’s available as single-motor rear-wheel drive EQS450+ ,dual motor, four-wheel drive EQS 450 4Matic models, each with 359hp together with 568Nm and 800Nm respectively.

The top model is the four-wheel-drive EQS 580 4Matic, which has 555hp.

Suspension

Like the EQS sedan, it is supported by a four-link rear and multi-link rear suspensions with Mercedes’ AirMatic air springs and adjustable damping controls as standard.

An angle of rear-facing steering of as high as 4.5 degrees is standard on the EQS SUV lineup; however, it can be increased by 10 degrees to bring the turn radius down to 11.9m to 11.0m.

Speed

The ride’s height can be adjusted by 25mm or more at speeds up to 80 kph. If the speed is higher than 109kph, it automatically lowers with a 10mm increment in comfort mode and up to 15mm when in sport mode to reduce drag and improve overall efficiency.

Driving Modes

It has Four primary driving modes that are Eco, Comfort, Off-Road, and Sport. All of these can be used without or with the electronic stability system.

According to Mercedes, when in Off-Road mode, the system’s limits for traction brakes that are anti-lock and downhill speed control and the mapping of the throttle are aligned to “enable the EQS SUV to conquer moderate terrain” .
