The City hybrid will look much like the regular version in terms of design.

Similar to its Malaysia-spec version, Honda City Hybrid is expected to be launched in India as the exclusive ‘RS’ trim that comes with subtle changes to the design for an athletic look.

The automaker will likely provide the same treatment as the model introduced to India.

Inside the cabin, City Hybrid has an all-black interior with contrasting silver touches, in contrast to the two-tone black and beige cabin with faux wood and piano black finish.

As a component of the RS trim, the steering wheel, as well as the seats of the car, will have contrast red stitching.

To provide higher efficiency, the latest model also comes with an idle start/stop mechanism.

Boot Space

Honda has outfitted this hybrid car with large battery packs, which increases its weight by 110 kilograms, and it also eats into its boot space.

The City Hybrid has a boot capacity of 410-litres, unlike the standard City’s 506 litres of boot capacity. The hybrid version will also lose the spare tire, but it has an emergency punctures repair kit instead of that.

Performance

Motor

The Honda City Hybrid’s latest model will feature a 1.5-litre four cylinder engine, naturally-aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol powered engine with a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors.

First electric motor is incorporated into the engine. The second motor works as a generator, and a starter is used to increase the power of the front wheels to drive the wheels using an electronic CVT via fixed-gear ratio.

The petrol engine produces an impressive 97bhp peak power and 127Nm in torque, while paired with an electric powertrain, it generates 253Nm of torque and 108bhp.

The engine will be connected to seven-speed DCT that features shift-by-wire technology.

You can drive the City with EV power, or combine of the both petrol and electric.

Driving modes:

The hybrid model of the car comes with three driving modes –

  • Running only on internal combustion petrol engines
  • Running only on electric motors
  • Hybrid, running with a combination of both petrol and battery

In the fully petrol mode, in which, the engine runs the wheels by itself with the lock-up clutch to connect directly to the eCVT. This mode is equipped to give the best performance.

In the fully electric mode, the sedan can only be powered by battery power, but it is only suitable for a short-range.

In hybrid mode, The engine acts as a generator that charges the lithium-ion battery, and it then supplies the power to the electric motor. This mode is specifically designed to get the maximum efficiency in fuel consumption for the vehicle.

This will allow it to be possible for the City Hybrid to be run entirely on electric power in urban areas, increasing fuel efficiency. On the highway, the hybrid engine will also boost the performance of the midsize sedan.
